ALADS is the certified bargaining unit
for deputy sheriffs and district attorney investigators working in Los Angleles County
- ALADS’ Representation Begins in the Sheriff’s Academy
ALADS was formed in February 1970 by ten Deputies who joined together to collectively resolve a labor dispute and to ensure that the rights of future Deputy Sheriffs would be protected.
In 1976, ALADS was certified as the majority representative for Bargaining Unit 0611, comprised of non-supervisory peace officer employees of the County. Our Memorandums of Understanding have historically resulted in the best wages, benefits, and working conditions negotiated for any County employee group.
By 1981, ALADS moved into its own corporate offices and negotiated paid time off for its officers to conduct ALADS business on a full-time basis. Our in-house staff assists members with grievance proceedings, legal defense representation, and a variety of insurance plans.
In 1983, ALADS became affiliated with the Marine Engineers Beneficial Association, the AFL-CIO, and Los Angeles County and California State Federations of Labor, moving the association into the mainstream of organized working people working together. As a result, ALADS enjoys the strength of these bodies in its collective bargaining relationship with the County of Los Angeles. In its legislative efforts in Sacramento and Washington, D.C., ALADS’ leadership is truly respected in dealing with the County on salary, benefits, and any other issues affecting working conditions by all unions representing County employees.
Today, ALADS is one of the largest and most powerful law enforcement associations in the Western United States. ALADS continues to fight for the best wages, hours, and working conditions for its members alongside working to promote excellent public safety services for the citizens of Los Angeles County. We also work hard to provide the best medical plan benefits through the ALADS Medical Trust and are continuously pushing toward higher standards in legal representation.
